Location Information

Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Key Responsibilities

As the Head of Human Resources for our largest operating division, FiveStar Senior Living, you will serve as the primary strategic HR business partner for the COO and Sr. Operations Leaders related to all aspects of the talent lifecycle. This leader will be responsible for leading and developing a team who can develop and execute a holistic and integrated people strategy that delivers on established KPI’s within the following areas: Talent Acquisition/Staffing; Retention and Engagement; Team Member Value Proposition Activation; Workforce Planning; Career Development/Progression; Team Member Relations (Investigations, Labor Compliance and Performance counseling); Business Unit Organizational Health

Lead & Shape Strategy

  • The HR Director, in partnership with Operations Leadership and CPO creates and implements the overarching people strategies for the brand.
  • Partners with centers of excellence leaders to ensure strategies and services align with the needs and outcomes aligned with the field talent strategy.
  • Develop a scalable HR and Recruiting operating model and approach to align with, and drive, business results.
  • Influence and lead the creation and execution of a multi-year Sr. Living people strategy that includes robust Recruiting and Staffing, Learning and Development, Engagement & Retention and Succession/Workforce planning strategies and plans.
  • Partner closely with Corporate Operations on implementation and sustainment of people initiatives.
  • Oversee the Team member experience- developing strategies around our practices, programs and decision making to drive a high-level of engagement and ability and commitment to delivering results.
  • Provide thought leadership to team on HR best practices that will drive a strong team member value proposition and results in a competitive advantage for the brand.
  • Represent a strong point of view linked to operational efficiencies and HR/TA operating model.
  • Develop, track, and analyze HR/TA metrics to implement continuous improvement of strategies and SLA’s

Deliver on Recruitment Activities

  • Partner with internal business leaders to anticipate, understand and address talent acquisition requirements and priorities based on historical data and trends and develops plans to meet needs.
  • Lead the development and design of hiring practices and support materials to ensure we hire the right skill sets and talent that is aligned with our values/culture.
  • Develop an effective pipeline & sourcing strategy using a combination of talent branding, external search, direct sourcing, online postings, referrals, social media, internal talent mining and other relevant methods
  • Responsible for effective execution and managing end to end recruiting process to achieve or exceed service level standards.
  • Ensure TA Team is appropriately resourced and trained to achieve hiring targets, while meeting or exceeding performance indicators for customer service and efficiency.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, country, state, and local laws around all recruitment processes.
  • Lead and/or participate in special projects and recruiting initiatives as needed.

HR Service Delivery

  • Leads team to develop and/or implement programs, processes and initiatives that embed AlerisLife values, behaviors and standards into everything we do.
  • Ensures team members are trained, developed, motivated and able to use all effective tools and resources available to drive the business and enable efficiency and scale.
  • Assess organization effectiveness, systems and process to identify areas of opportunity; define and lead solutions.
  • Take an active role in supporting team to resolve escalated ER issues and developing strategies to mitigate go forward, as needed.
  • Leverage the power of the field HR team to develop and execute consistent recruitment, development and succession planning processes, programs and standards across the brand.
  • Responsible for hiring and developing promotable talent within Field and HR team.
  • Oversee and drive the focus on leadership coaching, accountability and capability at all levels of the Field organization.

Key Experiences….

  • Minimum 7-10 years broad Human Resources generalist and Talent Acquisition experience including at least one senior HR generalist or Talent Acquisition role and preferably in a field organization
  • High level of comfort with most HR disciplines (compensation, TA, benefits, OD, operations, ER)
  • Strong problem solving by proactively driving results and being solution oriented
  • Experience with current practices in workforce planning and volume staffing and hiring models
  • Ability to navigate complex organizational situations to drive results
  • Ability to use MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, HRIS, ATS and Outlook
  • Demonstrated excellent communication/presentation skills to all audience levels.

Preferred Education:

  • Four year college degree preferred

Travel Requirements:

  • Ability to travel 30% of time- including overnights
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the business, including some nights, weekends and holidays
