Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Key Responsibilities

Summary:

The Generalist, P&C works proactively and collaboratively with assigned operational groups and partners to execute and deliver precise and timely HR operations that ensures an engaging workplace, compliance with all regulations, and a safe, inclusive environment for all. Through developing strong, trust-based client relationships, executes all HR programs and initiatives to effectively engage and retain talent to help the organization be successful. Provides subject matter expertise in key HR areas such as performance, employee relations, compliance, and training to support people leaders execute successfully on business objectives.

Responsibilities:

Oboarding & Performance

  • Provide end to end support for the full team member lifecycle experience from onboarding to offboarding. Follow new hires through the onboarding process and engage with them at various touchpoints to ensure they feel connected and supported. Provide a smooth and positive offboarding experience and provide insights on trends to help drive future retention improvements.
  • Ensure all new team members receive and complete orientation and training programs as defined by the Director of P&C, collaborating with COEs for additional support.
  • Provide data related to orientation and onboarding and with recommendations for improvement with the intent of providing a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages team member participation and voice.
  • Collaborate with the Director of P&C, functional leadership, and Centers of Excellence to identify skill gaps in the existing workforce and with guidance from the Director of P&C, collaborate with appropriate departments and COEs to develop and implement solutions to close those gaps.
  • Monitor, and where necessary, collaborate with managers and supervisors to ensure all performance reviews are completed timely and accurately.
  • Ensure all merit increases are implemented and timely, working with appropriate managers to resolve outliers.

People Program Management

  • Act as subject matter expert for all HR programs company wide including benefits, leave, recognition, compensation, etc.
  • Supports operational execution and sustainment of programs in the clinics ensuring accurate and timely execution of each aspect of current programs and periodic reporting as requested by leadership.
  • Actively participates in the Engagement Task Force to produce an environment that engages our team members.
  • Collaborate with leadership to implement/sunset programs as needed providing communication plans, reporting, etc.
  • Manage all leave programs from request to completion ensuring compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Periodically report on all leave requests providing status and other key data to appropriate leadership.

Workforce Relations & Compliance (We Really Care)

  • Acts as the primary point person for our We Really Care service: supporting leaders and team members in resolving workforce disputes and investigations.
  • Assists the Director of P&C with comprehensive investigations for all employee relations events, identifying key areas of concern, developing appropriate solutions, and ensuring implementation of all remediation.
  • Tracks and analyzes all employee relations events; identifying critical areas for improvement and recommending solutions to leadership.
  • Advises and trains managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances.
  • Communicates with employees regarding employee relations concerns; provides guidance and recommendations for resolution of issues.
  • Counsels leaders and team members on concerns related to applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other similar federal and state laws- escalates high risk matters to P&C Director and Legal.
  • Assist managers and supervisors in understanding and implementing company policies related to performance, discipline, and related topics
  • Ensure all locations are in compliance with current applicable federal, state, and local employment regulations as well as company policies regarding wages, overtime calculations, work hours, workers compensation, unemployment, hiring/discharge, etc.
  • Periodically performs audits on all employee documents to ensure 100% compliance with all federal, state, local, agency, and company policies
  • Ensures all sites are in compliance with federal, state, and local employment postings
