The Opportunity

This is a Remote position

The Enterprise Data Strategy team is seeking an experienced and visionary Lead Database Engineer to guide and build the architecture, migration, and optimization of our new Snowflake data warehouse. As a critical member of the team, this hands-on lead works together with other organization teams to design, develop, validate, and maintain the EDW platform.


What You’ll Do

  • Develop a brand new Enterprise Data Warehouse in Snowflake, leveraging DBT as the primary development tool and data vault as the data warehousing methodology.
  • Build staging, cleansing, modeling, and validation jobs within DBT to execute data transformations in support of the EDW.
  • Work closely with business and technology stakeholders to assist in the architecture of data models and pipelines, including operational data vaults and data marts.
  • Create and optimize large-scale batch and real-time data pipelines that ingest structured, semi-structured and unstructured data from a variety of sources.
  • Develop data integrity and monitoring models to address issues of validation, inconsistencies, and anomalies. Partner with Data Governance Council and Application Management teams to implement and optimize remediation plans.
  • Actively participate in an agile development process, including daily standups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, demos, and retrospectives.
  • Embrace the software development lifecycle and best practices, including task estimation, peer solution and code review, change management, and QA testing.
  • Tune dbt and Snowflake jobs to optimize for performance and cost reduction.
  • Provide support and mentorship to fellow team members, to help others learn and advance.
  • Request and utilize feedback to foster personal development.

What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a technical or analytical field preferred.
  • 5-7 years of relevant hands-on experience (2+ years dbt development experience, 2+ years cloud database - Snowflake preferred), including logical and physical data modeling, database and ETL development, data architecture design and deployment, and testing in an enterprise data warehouse platform/environment.
  • 2+ years experience data warehouse design, data vault experience a plus
  • Expert level experience in writing/developing SQL, developing operational data stores, and performance tuning databases. Expertise with Python a plus.
  • Experience writing technical specifications, interface specifications, design documents, and other technical documents.
  • Strong knowledge of version control, agile development, and QA procedures within a data organization.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps, JIRA, or similar project management tools preferred.
  • Experience with SOX system controls a plus.
  • Experience with clinical or financial data a plus.
  • Experience with Workato or similar iPaaS solutions a plus.
