Location Information

Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Key Responsibilities

Summary:

Reporting to the VP of Operations (Div C), the National Director of Clinical Operations will oversee a team of clinical care leaders with multi-site responsibilities to provide leadership to our field teams, with strategic direction being set by the corporate clinical team. The goal is to deliver quality care, optimize efficiencies, drive regulatory compliance, develop talent and achieve desired metrics. This will include a holistic approach to the health and wellness of an aging population, and coordination with team members – both in the corporate setting and in the field – to champion an integrated approach to resident care in how we operate our communities, and to promote positive clinical outcomes. In order to achieve such outcomes, the National Director of Clinical Operations will serve as a senior liaison between field operations, including the Directors of Clinical, and the home office to ensure that all clinical processes and initiatives are wholly implemented and monitored by the Operations team.

Responsibilities:

  • People
    • Oversee Directors of Clinical Care (DOC) and other clinical leadership team members, to ensure execution against clinical strategy as laid out by corporate leadership.
    • Collaborate with field operations on the DRC interview and hiring process.
    • Support and develop DRC Onboarding process.
    • Partner with field operations on strategies to effectively recruit, retain, coach, educate and ensure meaningful work for community level caregivers.
    • Facilitate/coordinate ongoing clinical and leadership related educational programs with DRC’s and other clinical leadership team members.
    • May provide additional hands on assistance and oversight to communities in the region struggling with survey compliance or plan of correction implementation as identified by the DOC.
    • Act as conduit for clinical communication and collaboration across all levels of the AlerisLife organization.
    • Oversee and deploy floating DRCs to focus communities to provide direct clinical support, or fill open positions.
  • Process and Strategy
    • Partner with corporate clinical leadership (CCO, CMO) and operations leadership to establish/manage Health and Wellness goals/outcomes and define clinical quality measures (CQM).
    • Consult with corporate clinical leadership as they define clinical strategy (annual planning, clinical collaborations and partnerships, national initiatives, clinical informatics roadmap, process enhancements).
    • Partner with field operations to establish regional QAPI and clinical quality measure goals.
    • Maintain current knowledge of current state and federal regulations, and clinical standards, participate in relevant clinical committees and/or workgroups.
    • Provide expert input in the development of, and revision of clinical practice policies/procedures and standards and assess clinical education/training needs.
    • Incorporates new methods, principles and trends learned from continuing education programs into existing practices.
  • Operations
    • Serve as an expert/clinical resource to field operations and provide oversight of clinical compliance including survey compliance and PCC compliance
    • Ensure QAPI meetings are completed and documented per company standards.
    • Provide on-site support as needed during community regulatory surveys – provide guidance and review of plan of correction (POC) requirements.
    • Provide expert clinical guidance/support to assist communities to achieve goals.
    • Measure and evaluate clinical quality measures/indicators and provide insights and trends to drive national actions.
    • Own clinical ops KPIs including admission denials, HLOC move-outs, LOC assessments, IDT compliance, staffing metrics and EHR compliance; drive accountability and focus through governance and outlier management.
    • Support field ops in resource/budget management by assessing clinical staffing needs and/or efficiencies related to resident acuity and annual budget planning.
    • Collaborate with Purchasing Department related to formulary management and clinical evaluation of resident care supplies/equipment.
  • Change and Technology
    • Act as business owner for national clinical initiatives.
    • Provide oversight, prioritization and operationalization of national initiatives
    • Support and monitor community compliance with Clinical IT system initiatives (i.e. electronic health records, “point of care” documentation systems, level of care.
    • Process and technology improvements in clinical footprint including data and KPIs (in alignment with clinical strategy)

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited RN nursing program with current, unencumbered RN license
  • 5+ years of relevant healthcare/senior living clinical and operational leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in the areas of assessment, care planning/service planning, medication management, disease/healthcare management, clinical quality measures.
  • Expert knowledge of federal and state regulations and demonstrated ability to shape and drive compliance for organizational policies & procedures.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with an understanding of the role that clinical operations plays in both fiscal responsibility and sales effectiveness.
  • High-level technology and systems proficiency leading with comfort with data/analytics, and including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EHR software.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continued advancement and life long learning
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, analytical, and budgeting skills with demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the AlerisLife organization.
  • Expert clinical and critical thinking skills and ability to provide training and educational programs to varied levels of community, regional and corporate team members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including active listening, ability to gain support through effective relationships and treating others with dignity and respect at all times.
  • Experience in drafting and implementing action plans to meet goals and objectives
  • Ability to travel extensively and accept a flexible working schedule (Valid Driver’s License required for travel.).
