Location Information

Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Key Responsibilities

Summary:

The Information Technology team at Five Star Senior Living, Inc. seeks a Senior Network Engineer to lead projects and initiatives involving network architecture, design, new technology implementation, and advanced operational support for over one hundred and fifty locations across the continental United States. This role will work with business teams, leadership, and IT subject matter experts to set standards and develop architecture that meets Five Star’s business needs.

Primary functions include network engineering and solution design, enabling stability, consolidation, manageability, and advances in future technologies. This role will provide guidance to IT teams and Service Providers to modify and maintain existing Five Star network architecture, complete project requests; oversee lifecycle management, capacity, health and performance management, continuous service improvement, business and technical analyses, reporting, and project management. In addition, this role provides engineering and design support for Five Star’s community, data center, and hybrid cloud infrastructure, including Software Defined Networking (SDN), security, remote access, wireless, LAN, WAN, and load balancing. This role will work with our technology providers as well as other third-party engineering, application, and operations teams.

Responsibilities:

Technology

• Plan, design, implement, monitor and maintain the operational health of local and wide area networks
• Define, evaluate and approve network designs and device configuration changes
• Install, configure, and support networking and security equipment from a wide range of industry leading vendors
• Interface with multiple IT teams as the expert networking resource to assess, recommend, project plan and implement network solutions in support of business initiatives
• Proactively monitor and report on overall network service performance and take action to correct deficiencies in monitoring and controlling the quality of individual network services
• Create and maintain technical documentation including network design diagrams, operational procedures, knowledgebase documents, disaster recovery plans and training documentation
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call support rotation
• Provide the highest-level escalation expertise and issue ownership for network operations trouble resolution

Leadership & Communication

• Adept at presenting technical designs, solutions, network health and purchase proposals to an audience of varying technical knowledge, including corporate executives and other senior leaders
• Act as the project lead for complex network engineering initiatives
• Effectively evaluate new technologies and present compelling business cases
• Exhibit superior organizational, analytic, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
• Provide accurate, timely and meaningful updates on projects, change control requests, and operational issues in the environment
• Embrace the responsibilities that come with leadership by exhibiting exemplary professionalism, pursuing the highest technical standards, demonstrating initiative, persistence, and resolve while mentoring team members to achieve the same

Requirements:

• Undergraduate degree in an engineering or computer science discipline and/or equivalent experience
• 8+ years of experience in each of the areas identified below:

  • Network architecture, design, troubleshooting, and support
  • Cisco and/or Palo Alto firewalls, Cisco switches and routers
  • IPAM, DNS, and DHCP technologies
  • WLAN design, troubleshooting, and support
  • Enterprise network security technologies including firewalls, VPN, IDS, IPS, NAC, WAF, and/or Web Proxies
  • Network virtualization products and technologies
  • Common network protocols, including TCP/IP, EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP
  • Documentation of architectural standards, policies, and engineering designs

• 5+ years of experience in each of the areas identified below:

  • Routing, switching, and IP subnetting
  • Delivery of technology solutions at an enterprise level

• 3+ years of experience in each of the areas identified below:

  • Working in a senior or lead network engineering role
  • Design and support of cloud managed network infrastructure

• Proficiency reading packet sniffer traces and debugging application conversations
• Proficiency with industry standard network management and monitoring tools
• Experience supporting HIPAA, SOX or PCI compliance efforts in an audited environment, incorporating industry best practices to secure data networks
• Strong vendor negotiation and business relationship skills

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences, including executives, business stakeholders, and cross-functional IT teams

• Ability to work non-business hours and participate in an on-call rotation, as needed

• Ability to travel on a limited basis to support business needs

Preferred

• CCIE, CCNP, and other technical certifications highly desirable
